Dakanao
Born in 1961 in Dawu Mountain, southern Taiwan, Dakanao (meaning Crested Serpent Eagle) is a musician with ancestors from both Piwan and Rukai. Daganao recalled, the experience of meeting Hu Defu as a college student and an activist in the indigenous movement was too shocking, he was confused by the rootless anxiety felt by his generation, as well as disappointed at the emptiness of formality in the identity of blood or traits. Against everyone’s expectation, he determinedly quit a stable teaching job and started performing original songs for various events and venues.
Magaitan
Magaitan, Thao people, has been continuously creating songs in his native language for over two decades. Inspired by the people, places and things in his life, his expression was made with the simplest instrument, guitar; he released numerous contemporary original Thao songs, which then become the first published music album in Thao. Still following the urges and directions of the ancestral spirits, he ceaselessly and diligently carries on the continuity of traditional ceremonies, Lus’an, the revival of native language, as well as the claim of ancestral land, the original Thao Territory.
